ZoogVPN is a relatively new name on the market, yet it poses a serious threat to competition thanks to its excellent quality-price ratio. We rarely see a privacy-oriented VPN service with a low price tag and support for unlimited simultaneous connections, and this is one of those pleasant occasions. The service has a decent worldwide network, having a few servers on each continent. Besides, some of those servers are p2p-friendly and ZoogVPN claims that they’re torrent-friendly. Aside from all the basic features you would expect in a secure VPN service, a free plan is without a doubt a nice addition, considering that you don’t need to give them your banking info to get it. Learn more about ZoogVPN in this detailed review.

Security
55/5

ZoogVPN is a really good choice if you’re looking for a secure yet affordable VPN service. It has all the bells and whistles you would expect from a premium VPN service In its price bracket. First, there’s a strong military-grade 256-Bit encryption cipher. There’s a strong No-logs policy, which is a rarity for a VPN service on budget (we’re talking about you, Hotspot Shield). Kill Switch and leak protection are also present, keeping users’ from sticky situations. If you happen to be in one of the countries with rather strong censorship and civil tensions, you could use a ZoogShadowing feature, which essentially is their own obfuscating feature for bypassing strong censorship. For example, when most popular VPN services are gone in Russia, ZoogVPN is still going strong. Overall, security is great on this affordable VPN, especially since even the free plan gets 128-bit encryption and a no-logs treatment, preventing users’ data from being used for advertisement purposes.

Speed
55/5

We were pleasantly surprised with the speeds we were getting in our tests. The recorded loss on distant servers is insignificant, and when we connected to a server located in London, the results came out even better than we originally had with our ISP in terms of Download speeds. See for yourself.

The latency score is adequate, casual users wouldn’t notice the difference, maybe except for esports enthusiasts playing competitive FPS games. The download/upload speeds are great for streaming video/audio content in high quality without buffering.

Unlike many other affordable and free VPN services, ZoogVPN successfully carried out the implementation of an open-source lightning-fast WireGuard protocol. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that the WireGuard provides high speeds due to the uncluttered code it operates on. Considering the fact that the ZoogVPN is on a cheaper side, it definitely exceeded our expectations in terms of speeds.

Their Android app runs on OpenVPN protocol, while iOS apps utilize IKEV2, with the latter being more optimal for fast connection speeds. Don’t expect to stream Netflix on a free plan though, it’s good enough for bypassing geo-restrictions, browsing and downloading some light files. Nevertheless, it’s a good addition to any service.

Features
4.54.5/5

ZoogVPN offers plenty of features for the average user and security enthusiast. We should mention that ZoogVPN is by far one of the most intuitive and simplistic (in a good way) interfaces out there. The layout is extremely easy to digest, so that even novice user can figure out everything in a few minutes. Of course, some advanced settings and features that geeks would love are missing, but we figure that for the average user this is a huge plus.

At the time of writing this review, ZoogVPN has dedicated bare-metal VPN servers in 26 countries, which is not the biggest number we’ve seen (especially in comparison with Cyberghost), but it would be enough for covering all your streaming and browsing needs. A free plan gives you a choice of 5 servers, which is still pretty neat, considering you don’t have to provide your credit card information to get it. A monthly bandwidth on a free plan is capped at 10 GB.

The service has support for p2p servers, which means it is torrent-friendly. If you worry about getting caught torrenting a brand-new movie, you can relax, as the HQ of the company is located in Greece – a country outside the 5, 9 and 14 Eyes alliances’ jurisdiction. The most important part about this VPN is that there’s a strict No-logs policy, which means that the service does not store your logs and browsing sessions, subsequently making it impossible for your Internet Service Provider to collect it.

There are also the usual features for premium VPN services like Kill Switch, leak protection and strong encryption ciphers to keep you from harm’s way. Besides, the service offers its own obfuscating feature called ZoogShadowing, which should give you access to VPN even in the most heavily-censored countries like China and Russia.

The only downside we can note is a lack of split tunneling, which is important for some users.

Price
55/5

The service is priced reasonable, and it is significantly more affordable than the industry-leading NordVPN and ExpressVPN. The 12-month Premium plan will set you back $2.99/mo or $9.99/mo if you choose to go with a monthly plan. Unlike Hotspot Shield, you don’t need to upgrade your plan to get an unlimited number of simultaneous connections and the price varies only depending on the duration of your plan. At the time of writing this article, the cheapest you can get the ZoogVPN subscription for is $1.87/mo for a 24-month plan. There’s also a free plan limited to one device and capped at 10 GB per month.

Streaming
4.54.5/5

ZoogVPN unblocks all major streaming platforms you would expect, like Netflix, ESPN, Disney+, Sky TV, ITV Hub, iPlayer, Channel 4, Hulu, HBO Max, BT Sports and many more. There is also a support for local streaming services from different countries, like ServusTV, Rakuten TV, Fubo TV, Amediateka, RTE etc. There is currently no support for DAZN, but we’ll see if it changes in the future. The great thing about ZoogVPN is that the list of supported streaming services is constantly growing. The connection is reliable and won’t just disconnect for whatever reason, which makes it a good choice for your Netflix binge sessions.

Streaming on both PC/laptops and mobile devices is extremely easy and convenient. You just launch the app (it can be toggled to launch and connect with the Windows), connect to a necessary server and load the streaming service/website of your choice.

Conclusion

ZoogVPN is an all-around great choice for most users, striking the good balance between quality and affordability. The service is packed with serious security and convenience features for all occasions and can be a great companion to an avid traveler. Besides, it’s priced way below the competition, which makes it even more appealing. A free plan is always appreciated considering the recession and social issues we’re facing in 2022.
